What your MB pro can help with

South Florida plumbing has its own problems: homes built on concrete slabs, where a leaking pipe hides under the floor; cast-iron drains in older homes that corrode from the inside; hard water that scales water heaters and fixtures; and summer downpours that push drain and sewer lines past their limit. Plumbing work in Florida must be done by a licensed plumbing contractor — we match you with one near you.

  • Leak detection and repair, including slab leaks under the floor.
  • Drain cleaning and stubborn clogs in sinks, tubs, showers and main lines.
  • Water heaters, tank and tankless — repaired or replaced, with the permit.
  • Toilets, faucets and fixtures repaired or replaced.
  • Re-piping polybutylene and galvanized supply lines, and replacing deteriorated cast-iron drains.
  • Sewer line problems and backups, and low or uneven water pressure.

Plumbing licenses and permits in Florida

Florida law (chapter 489, Florida Statutes) requires plumbing work to be done by a licensed plumbing contractor, either state-certified or registered for the local area. A building or roofing license does not cover plumbing. Before work starts, ask for the plumbing contractor's license number and check it on the Florida DBPR website.

Replacing a water heater, re-piping a home or replacing a sewer line typically needs a plumbing permit from your city or county building department, and the plumbing contractor pulls it. Small repairs, like a faucet or a toilet part, usually don't. An open permit can surface when you sell or refinance.

Plumbing questions, answered

Could I have a slab leak?
Signs include a water bill that jumps for no reason, the sound of running water when everything is off, warm or damp spots on the floor, and a water meter that keeps moving with every tap closed. Mention them on the form — the leak should be located before anyone opens the floor.
My home has cast-iron drains. Should I worry?
Many older South Florida homes have cast-iron drain lines under the slab, and cast iron corrodes and cracks from the inside over time. Slow drains, repeat backups and sewer smells are warning signs. A camera inspection shows the line's condition before anyone recommends a repair or replacement.
What is polybutylene pipe?
A gray plastic supply pipe used in many homes built from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s. It can fail without warning, and some insurers ask about it. If your home has it, ask the plumbing pro whether re-piping makes sense.
Tank or tankless water heater?
Tankless units heat water as you use it and free up space; a tank is the simplest like-for-like swap. Hard water affects both, so ask about flushing or a softener. Replacing a water heater typically needs a permit.
Why do drains back up in heavy storms?
In hurricane-season downpours, saturated ground and overloaded sewer lines can push water back up through floor drains and low fixtures. Ask the plumbing pro whether your home has, or needs, a backwater valve.
